Gardening
Tomatoes are one of my favorite crops. Growing tomatoes is easy and you'll be amazed at the taste difference! I also like to grow green beans, peas, lettuce, herbs, and peppers. Every year I experiment with something new as well. I've grown eggplants, cucumbers, and various other things. Last winter I tried cauliflower and broccoli. The broccoli did great and I'll do that again this year. The cauliflower turned into a snail haven and grossed me out. Oh well! I also grow garlic each year.
Talk to your neighbors who garden and ask which fruits and vegetables do well in your area. You might also be able to find a local gardening club if you'd really like to get serious. They are a great source of knowledge about your particular area and you really can't beat that!
Pruning
Pruning your shrubs and trees is necessary to keep them in the shape you want, encourage production, and protect them from pests.
